A Place to Move, Explore and Play
The playground at Catherine McAuley has been designed to give students plenty of choice in how they play, move and spend time with their friends throughout the school day.
Rather than one single play space, the area includes a range of different experiences for students to explore. There are large climbing and rope structures, areas for balancing and physical challenge, and more natural play elements using timber, logs and different textures.
Play for Different Ages and Interests
The playground has been designed with different types of play in mind. Students can climb, balance and challenge themselves, while other areas provide opportunities for imaginative and less structured play.
Shade structures have been incorporated across key play areas, alongside established trees and extensive landscaping that help the playground feel connected to its natural surroundings.
There are also open grassed areas and hard-surface spaces, giving students room for games, movement and activities beyond the fixed playground equipment.
Spaces to Come Together
The outdoor environment includes places where students can sit, gather and spend time together, creating opportunities for both active play and quieter social time.
The playground also connects naturally with the school’s covered walkways and surrounding learning areas, making the outdoor environment feel like an extension of the school rather than a separate space.
And this is only the Beginning
As Catherine McAuley continues to grow, so too will its outdoor facilities. Future stages will include a soccer oval and basketball court, providing even more opportunities for sport, physical education and active play.
These future spaces will build on the playground being created today, giving students even more ways to be active, play together and enjoy the outdoors as the school community grows.
