IN THE MEDIA: Construction ramps up on Medowie primary school, on track for 2027 opening

The development of Catholic school, Catherine McAuley Primary, continues to progress with new fly-through animations and renders showing prospective parents what to expect.
The school will feature “light-filled” classrooms, landscaped outdoor environments and playgrounds that “encourage exploration and collaboration”.
Catholic Schools Maitland-Newcastle has also appointed the school’s foundation principal, Samantha Kelley.

Ms Kelley said it was a privilege to be appointed to the principal position.

“Having grown up in this region, I am looking forward to reconnecting with the community, building strong relationships with families, and leading a school that nurtures the next generation academically, socially and spiritually,” she said.

Ms Kelley will move from North Queensland ahead of the school’s opening.

Director of Catholic Schools Jacqueline Wilkinson said the appointment of a principal signalled strong progress for the project.

“With construction advancing and a Foundation Principal now appointed, families can feel confident that Catherine McAuley Primary School is full steam ahead to open for Term 1 2027,” she said.

The primary school will join the Catherine McAuley Catholic College and St Nicholas Early Education Centre as part of a Medowie Catholic education precinct.

The new primary school was initially scheduled to open in 2026 but a delay in construction caused by changes to the national building code pushed the opening back a year.
Enrolments for the new primary school were expected to open soon.
